The Euromex bScope
A budget entry-level microscope
As an affordable alternative to the iScope offered by PeplerOptics, this entry-level microscope lacks the features available in the more expensive packages that we recommend, but still offers adequate image quality for basic blood analysis.
We have trialed this package in our clinic and found it well-designed, simple to use and good value for money. Worldwide shipping is available and stock availability is usually good.
This is the only type of L.E.D. microscope that we recommend because of the unique way it illuminates the darkfield condenser directly, giving a clear and well-defined image of the sample. The low wattage of this model should not be confused with the low power offered by other budget microscopes.
Lacking the x2 or x100 objectives, this model does not produce the same high-definition images of the live blood sample, however the field of view at x40 with this model is perfectly adequate for analysing blood. Depending on the digital imaging package used (see below), software-based digital zooming may also be used to achieve a higher level of magnification.

Digital Imaging Equipment
There are two options that we recommend regarding the viewing and capturing of live images on a computer.
Option 1) Euromex sCMEX-6 USB Camera
Euromex sCMEX-6 Scientific Grade Microscope Camera, USB 3.0, 6.0MP
The sCMEX-6 Microscope Camera, model DC.6000s, from Euromex is a high speed camera equipped with a scientific grade back illuminated sCMOS sensor from Sony with 16 bits grayscale conversion and outstanding 36 bits colour rendering. Suitable for brightfield and darkfield applications.
The ImageFocus Alpha image analysis software is bundled with the product so you can easily show live images on a monitor or projector and directly capture images, videos and time lapse videos.

Option 2) Canon DSLR
The following imaging package represents the system that we use on our courses and in our own practices. It gives a high-definition clear image, offers useful features such as digital zoom, and allows video and image capture.
All the following items can be purchased online from Amazon or other camera retailers. All together they represent a cost of approximately £600* depending on where they are purchased.
Canon EOS 2000D (Body Only)
Amazon UK link here
Equivalent model Amazon US link here
Equivalent model Amazon Canada link here
This is the latest low-specification Canon DSLR that offers HD imagery and ‘Live View’ mode for viewing live blood samples on screen (it connects to your laptop via an HDMI cable). To save money you can purchase the ‘body only’ model that does not come with a lens, as this is not required for use with a microscope (UK model only).
Canon EOS software is the imaging package that we use in our training and comes free with all Canon cameras.
Please Note: It is not essential that you purchase the latest model. There are earlier models such as the Canon 1200D or 1300D (Rebel T5 in US & Canada) which are perfectly suitable and can be purchased second-hand or refurbished for a much cheaper price. Make sure the model offers HD ‘live view’ video recording.
AmScope Canon DSLR Adaptor + T2 ring
Amazon UK link here
Equivalent model Amazon US link here
Equivalent model Amazon Canada link here
This adaptor connects the camera body to the trinocular head of the microscope.
The T2 ring holds the adaptor in place and is attached to the lens mount on the front of the camera. It is vital that you purchase the correct T2 ring for the model of camera that you are using.
Canon DSLR Power Adaptor
Amazon UK link here
Equivalent model Amazon US link here
Equivalent model Amazon Canada link here
This power adaptor means your camera will stay powered indefinitely rather than having to change batteries. It fits into the battery slot of the DSLR. Obviously it is important that you purchase the version with the correct power cable for your territory.
Please Note: Although a convenient and fairly cheap item, this is not absolutely necessary as it is possible to use the battery that comes with the camera.
